Protect Our Streams, Lakes and Rivers: An Environmentally Friendly Approach to Lawn Care

Why be concerned?

Rain and melting snow carry small amounts of oil, grease, soil, debris and other pollutants to rivers, lakes and wetlands. Lawn fertilizer and pesticides are among the pollutants that have been found in storm water runoff.

Program Components Include:

An initial on-site consultation
Soil nutrient tests offered to customers
Low-phosphorus or no-phosphorus fertilizer
Slow-release nitrogen fertilizer (50% in slow-release form)
Fertilizer quantities of 2, 3, or 4 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft., applied over the growing season
Pesticide options offered: zero pesticides, spot treatment for weeds, and on-time rescue operation for weed control
Advice to the customer on proper maintenance practices such as mowing and irrigation.
